ENTREPRENEURSHIP EDUCATION IN POST PRIMARY SCHOOLS: A NOSTRUM FOR GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT IN THE POST MILLENNIUM ERA IN BAYELSA STATE.
Abstract:Sustainable development has become the pivotal point of every economy in the world, and Bayelsa state is no exception. Entrepreneurship has been widely recognized to be an instrument for sustainable and socio-economic development. The roots of an entrepreneurial career can be attributed to early phases of a person’s socialization, which indicate that there
is a positive correlation between entrepreneurial potentials at a young stage in life and entrepreneurial activity later on. This work examined the potential of entrepreneurial education in post primary schools towards the socio-economic development of Bayelsa State. This paper focuses on the PIVOTAL ROLE played by entrepreneurial education in post primary schools and concluded that, entrepreneurial education, if introduced at the early stages in education, could be a veritable instrument for the development ofBayelsa State. Amongst its major recommendations is that entrepreneurship as a subject area should be
made mandatory at all levels of secondary education for all students. It should not be a part of commerce but a subject standing on its own. This should also be addressed in the West African School Certificate Examination.
